Environmental Management in Tourism Conference provisionally postponed

The Environmental Management in Tourism conference (EMiT) which offered a dedicated platform for debate on responsible tourism has been postponed until a later date conference organisers announced today.

The decision to postpone the conference, which was to have taken place from 9-10 November at the Sandton Conference Centre in Sandton, Johannesburg and included high profile local and international specialists on all aspects of environmental management in the hospitality and leisure industry, was guided by a number of factors including slow registrations, the proximity of COP17 and the current economic downturn currently being experienced in the country (and industry).

“We are looking at a new date and have already received the full support and participation of all our speakers once the new date has been identified,” says Virginia McManus, EMiT’s event manager.

“We would also like to reassure those delegates who have already paid to attend the conference – that we will be in contact with them to refund their delegate fees,” McManus said.

While the conference has been cancelled the awarding of the 10th Annual Imvelo Awards for Responsible Tourism will still be held at the Sandton Conference Centre on Wednesday, 9 November which is also marks World Responsible Tourism Day.  Arrival time for guests and entrants is 16:00 for 16:30.

The conference organisers would like to thank the Gauteng Tourism Authority, SA Tourism, the Southern Sun Group and industry associations and media for their support of the conference.
