Event Greening Training in Gauteng
Are you a professional event or exhibition organiser that wants to make a difference? Are you trying to get ahead of the pack in a responsible manner? Would you like to learn more about event greening and what you can do to green your events?
These half day training sessions have been designed to teach you how to do event greening in a practical way. We have compiled a comprehensive training schedule to suite your busy lifestyle and we believe that it will be beneficial to you and your environment. To build on previous training, but also provide opportunity for people that have no prior experience, we will be offering a starter session in the morning, with a more comprehensive session in the afternoon.
The training will include the following main elements:
- What is event greening? What are the benefits and why is it important?
- What are the main greening practices that need to be implemented, such as waste reduction, eco procurement and energy efficiency?
- What is climate change, global warming and carbon off-setting?
- The section on practical implementation will include how to get started, the management principles and high impact areas that need to be considered, such as venues, exhibition, F&B, marketing and transport.
Audience
The training is aimed at the following main groups:
- Event organisers – conferences, meetings, seminars, workshops, festivals, exhibitions
- Venues –convention centres, hotels and other venues where events are held
- Suppliers and sub-contractors – infrastructure, AV, transport, products
Outcome
Participation in the training workshop will assist you to understand the importance of event greening with the following outcomes:
- Improve the resource efficiency of the entire event and supply chain management;
- Reduce negative environmental impacts such as carbon emissions, waste to landfill and effects on biodiversity;
- Increase economic, social and environmental benefits (triple-bottom-line);
- Improve economic impacts such as local investment and long-term viability;
- Improve social impacts such as community involvement and fair employment;
- Improve sustainable performance within an available budget;
- Reduce the negative impacts on local residents;
- Protect the local biodiversity, water and soil resources;
- Apply the principles of eco procurement for goods and services;
- Raise awareness on sustainability issues amongst all role players; and
- Ensure that the aims and objectives are clearly defined and measured.
Presenter
Grace Stead, who is a leader in the field of event greening, will present this interactive training session. She has been involved with events such as the Live Earth Concert, ICLEI World Congress, Green Building Council and Rocking the Daisies, and a co-author of documents such as Minimum Environmental Standards for the 2010 FIFA World Cup; Play it Green – Event Greening for large sports events in SA; UN Green Meetings Guide and the Smart Events Handbook. She is a member of Green Meeting Industry Council and a key contributor to the Event Greening Forum in South Africa. She runs her own business Steadfast Greening that focuses on event greening and sustainable living and is a founding member of icologie that promotes sustainable living.
Logistics and cost
Training workshops will be held in Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban depending on demand. Numbers will be limited to a maximum of twenty participants per training event. Cost will depend on the venue and final arrangements and will include light refreshments and training material. The estimated cost for a half day workshop per person is R525 excluding VAT, while a full day will cost R775, excluding VAT, but will be confirmed with final logistics.
